Sleep
The role of sleep in andropause is an interesting one. The busy lives most people in North America live today has resulted in a general state of sleep deprivation. This can effect testosterone production, and in fact help to create a vicious cycle. As testosterone levels decrease, and the symptoms of andropause start to appear, you re likely to begin sleeping even more poorly, as this is commonly seen in andropause.
Moreover, with decreasing testosterone levels, there is an increase in body fat and a change in distribution. This may lead to a condition known as sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is often written off as being just "a bad snoring problem". In fact, it is a potentially serious condition where patients actually stop breathing while they sleep. It can lead to complications including heart disease and stroke, as well as excessive daytime drowsiness. It also decreases night time sleep, which again will lower testosterone further. If you've noticed any significant change in your sleep patterns, or wake up after what you consider to be a reasonable night's sleep and don't feel well rested or refreshed, you should definitely consult your doctor.
